Event summary
The Western Queensland Surface Trough and Associated Rainfall and Flooding, commencing 21 March 2025 event caused widespread rain and flooding across Western Queensland. The significance of this event is highlighted by several towns including Stonehenge, Jundah and Windorah surpassing flood heights from 1974.
Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements
The joint Australian, state and territory governments’ Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) provide a range of financial assistance to the natural disaster-declared areas in each state or territory.
Activation summary
In response to the Western Queensland Surface Trough and Associated Rainfall and Flooding, commencing 21 March 2025 event, assistance has been activated for impacted communities. The latest activation summary provides an up-to-date outline of funding available within impacted LGAs.
Financial assistance and exceptional circumstances
Recovery operation
The recovery operation for this event will include:
- preparation of a business case for extraordinary assistance under the DRFA
- offers of support from QRA Recovery and Resilience Officers (RROs) to eligible councils to help develop event specific local recovery plans
- QRA as lead recovery agency liaising with Functional Recovery Groups to ensure appropriate state recovery planning.

QRA is working closely with councils to offer support to develop event specific local recovery plans that will be available following endorsement by councils.
