SEQ and outback sports clubs to share in $42.5 million for recovery

Disaster impacted sport and recreation clubs and councils across south-east Queensland and western Queensland can now tap into $42.5 million in grant funding to aid their recovery efforts.

The Sport and Recreation Recovery Grants, jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), will help clubs return to full strength.

Eligible not-for-profit sport and rec clubs, and local governments, can apply for up to $1 million to help repair, restore, rebuild and, where possible, improve resilience of facilities damaged during the severe weather events of early 2025.

The grants will provide a welcome boost for organisations at the heart and soul of the suburbs, ensuring community connections are maintained during these challenging times.

For SEQ clubs and councils impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, $27.5 million is available across 18 local government areas.

A further $15 million has been allocated for 40 western Queensland LGAs that suffered the effects of record-breaking flooding between March and May.

Grants can help repair damaged clubhouses, canteens, locker rooms and amenities, courts, fields, lighting, carparks and more.

In addition, clubs can also use funds to replace disaster affected equipment for participants.

Repairing and improving the resilience of community sport and rec facilities throughout the south-east and west will benefit tens of thousands of Queenslanders and provide significant positive outcomes for health and wellbeing.
