Flagship Queensland severe weather initiative ready to go national
Iconic Queensland household disaster preparedness program Get Ready Queensland is set to be rolled out across the country off the back of a $27.8 million investment by the Australian and state and territory governments.
The National Get Ready initiative will put in place a structured disaster preparedness framework with resource-sharing arrangements across Australia.
Central to the expansion of the program is messaging and guidance tailored to communities around the country, building on Queensland’s longstanding disaster preparedness expertise.
With a core focus on increasing household disaster resilience and helping all Aussies prepare for severe weather, National Get Ready will result in a stronger, safer, more resilient nation.
Delivery of this work will be driven by $19.5 million in funding from states and territories, and $8.3 million from the Australian Government.
This investment has been secured through the latest round of the Australian Government’s Disaster Ready Fund (DRF), which backs projects that increase disaster resilience and help to reduce the impacts of severe weather.
Established in 2013, the Get Ready Queensland program offers a proven framework to national disaster preparedness that can be leveraged by all jurisdictions around the country.
With National Get Ready, resource-sharing and tailored disaster preparation strategies will ensure specific regional resilience requirements are met.
Queensland will continue to play a leading role in improving national disaster preparedness and resilience, helping all Australians protect themselves and their properties during severe weather.
