Disaster funding activated for more flooded farmers, businesses and community organisations
As Queensland’s disaster season continues to expand, financial assistance has been extended to more flood affected primary producers, small businesses and not-for-profits battling the impacts.
Producers in Boulia, Bundaberg, Diamantina, Fraser Coast, Gympie, North Burnett and South Burnett can now apply for grants up to $75,000, low-interest loans up to $2 million, and freight subsidies up to $5,000 to assist with repairs, operational costs, restocking and recovery.
Small businesses in Boulia, Bundaberg, Diamantina, Douglas, Gladstone and Western Downs are eligible for loans up to $250,000 to support clean-up, repairs, paying wages, rent and rates, supply costs, replanting, and for the purchase of fuel or water.
Bundaberg, Douglas, Gladstone and Western Downs small businesses can also access grants up to $25,000 to aid their recovery, allowing them to push ahead with necessary clean-up activities, and repairs to buildings, plant or equipment.
With primary production and small business integral to regional Queensland communities, activating this assistance from the Queensland and Australian Governments will help mitigate the effects of the floods on the economy and local jobs.
Not-for-profits directly impacted by flooding in Barcaldine, Doomadgee, Gladstone and Western Downs can also apply for loans up to $100,000 to assist with recovery and operational expenses, allowing them to continue carrying out their important work.
All assistance is being delivered under the joint Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) to help communities recover from the severe weather experienced across Queensland since Christmas.
In this time multiple weather systems have lashed the state, bringing intense rain and flooding to communities from the Far North and Gulf down to the south-west corner and along the coast.
Applications for grants and loans can be made through www.qrida.qld.gov.au or via 1800 623 946, while farmers needing freight subsidies can contact the Department of Primary Industries on 13 25 23.
