$75,000 primary producer grants to drive flood recovery in Western Queensland
Grants of up to $75,000 are now available to eligible primary producers to boost recovery in the wake of the devastating floods across western Queensland.
Disaster Recovery Grants are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
The floods have had a disastrous effect on the agricultural sector which is the lifeblood of the rural and regional economy.
Floodwaters have inundated an area twice the size of Victoria and washed away thousands of kilometres of fences and killed more than 150,000 head of livestock.
The ensure recovery in the region, DRFA grant support has been activated for primary producers in nine council areas: Barcoo, Boulia, Bulloo, Diamantina, Longreach, Murweh, Paroo, Quilpie and Winton
These grants are available for clean-up and vital recovery activities like debris removal, the replacement of damaged fences, repairs to buildings and other on-farm infrastructure as well as restocking, and replanting.
Other support through the DRFA in response to the Western Queensland floods includes low interest loans for farmers and small businesses, freight subsidies for primary producers, emergency payments for residents, and response and recovery funding for councils.
The focus of the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) is to continue supporting the community as they move into recovery, with a particular focus on supporting those who have had their homes inundated, and the primary producers in the region who have had their livelihoods so badly impacted.
It will be difficult time for many, but QRA will be with communities for the long haul.
